Electron Diffusion by Magnetosonic Waves in the Earth’s Radiation Belts

چکیده

We conduct a global survey of magnetosonic waves and compute the associated bounce drift averaged diffusion coefficients, taking into account co-located measurements fpe/fce, to assess role in radiation belt dynamics. The average wave intensities increase with increasing geomagnetic activity decreasing relative frequency majority power range fcp < f 0.3fLHR during active conditions. Fast Magnetosonic Waves Driven by Gravitational Waves

The propagation of a gravitational wave (GW) through a magnetized plasma is considered. In particular, we study the excitation of fast magnetosonic waves (MSW) by a gravitational wave, using the linearized general-relativistic hydromagnetic equations. We derive the dispersion relation for the plasma, treating the gravitational wave as a perturbation in a Minkowski background space-time. We show...

Cosmic ray acceleration by fast magnetosonic waves

Recently, Schlickeiser and Miller have calculated anew the acceleration rate of cosmic rays by fast magnetosonic plasma waves in a small-beta plasma, using a linear dispersion relation. They found that the transit-time damping of fast mode waves provides the dominant contribution to the stochastic acceleration rate of cosmic ray particles, both, in pure fast mode wave turbulence as well as in a...

Generation of proton aurora by magnetosonic waves

Earth's proton aurora occurs over a broad MLT region and is produced by the precipitation of low-energy (2-10 keV) plasmasheet protons. Proton precipitation can alter chemical compositions of the atmosphere, linking solar activity with global climate variability. Previous studies proposed that electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves can resonate with protons, producing proton scattering precipitati...

Gravitational and magnetosonic waves in gamma - ray

One of the possible sources of gamma-ray bursts (grbs) are merging, compact neutronstar binaries. More than 90% of the binding energy of such a binary is released in the form of gravitational waves (gws) in the last few seconds of the spiral-in phase before the formation of a black hole. In this article we investigate whether a fraction of this gw energy is transferred to magnetohydrodynamic wa...

Fast magnetosonic waves in pulsar winds

Fast magnetosonic waves in a magnetically-dominated plasma are investigated. In the pulsar wind, these waves may transport a significant fraction of the energy flux. It is shown that the nonlinear steepening and subsequent formation of multiple shocks is a viable mechanism for the wave dissipation in the pulsar wind. The wave dissipation both in the free pulsar wind and beyond the wind terminat...
